The appointment of a new archpriest brings around new beginnings as well as a sense of continuation for all parishes involved in such process. The same feeling is being felt in Qala right now as the whole community bids farewell and thanks Archpriest Fr Ignatius Borg for his dedication and hard work during his 7 years spent amongst us. At the same time we are welcoming the new Archpriest Mons. Dr Edward Xuereb as he takes over the spiritual responsibility of the Qala community.

As part of such transition, a series of handover meetings were held by both Archpriests throughout the 23-25 August with all committees and parish organisations. Radju Leħen il-Qala is one of such organizations with whom a handover meeting was held. During this meeting, the dynamics and overall organisation of our community radio station were explained to the new Archpriest. The radio schedules, 24/7 audio visual streaming services and this year’s 25th anniversary celebrations were amongst the themes discussed.

Archpriest Fr Ignatius Borg mentioned the importance that the community radio station has in Qala especially during this global pandemic. He also referred to the popularity of the radio station amongst the elderly and emigrants. On his part, Archpriest Mons. Dr Edward Xuereb recognised the importance of our community radio station and looks forward to find new ways how to connect with the Qala parishioners through Radju Leħen il-Qala.

RLQ’s Silver Celebrations

On Sunday, 25th July 2021, Radju Leħen il-Qala celebrated its 25th anniversary from its first radio transmission.

Radju Leħen il-Qala is the first Gozitan community radio station that acquired a permanent license to air on our radio frequencies from the Broadcasting Authority back on the 25th July 1996.

For this special occasion, the radio administration had prepared a series of celebratory events to commemorate this major milestone for our station. However, these had to be reduced and postponed due to the current global pandemic. Instead, on Sunday 25th July 2021, a thanksgiving mass was celebrated in the Qala Parish Church. Moreover, a special radio programme was aired on the same day with the participation of the members of the administration. During this programme RLQ took a trip down memory lane reminiscing about so many wonderful events that were experienced by many past and present administrations.

Throughout the years, this radio station continued to evolve with the building of its permanent studios in 2008 and the introduction of 24/7 audio visual live streaming services in 2009. Nowadays, 25 years later, Radju Leħen il-Qala continues to connect people all over the world. Its services are still essential and more so due to the current global pandemic.

The administration of Radju Leħen il-Qala would like to take this opportunity to thank all its equipe members, volunteers, listeners and benefactors – past and present – who through them has been able to reach such significant silver moment for our community radio station.
