It is time yet again for another Festa Schedule on Radju Leħen il-Qala. This year’s schedule will kick off on Saturday, 6th July 2013 till festa day – mark your calendars! Final preparations are underway.
Prior to the coming schedule, RLQ has just successfully completed a 3-day scheduled maintenance in its premises. Special thanks to all volunteers for their hard help during this time to get everything ready on time.

Issa li ninsabu biss ftit ġimgħat ‘l bogħod milli niċċelebraw l-anniversarju tat-325 sena mit-twaqqif tal-Parroċċata’ Santa Marija tal-Qala, ħassejt il-ħtieġa li nikteb kelmtejn dwar dak kolluli ġara tliet mija u ħamsa u għoxrin sena ilu permezz ta’ erba’ dokumenti.
L-Ewwel Dokument
L-ewwel wieħed mid-dokumenti tal-Isqof Cocco Palmieri li kollha kemm huma jitkellmudwar it-twaqqif tal-erba’ parroċċi ġodda: Żebbuġ, Sannat, Xagħra u Qala huwadak tal-4 ta’ Mejju 1687 jiġifieri madwar sena qabel ma twaqqfu l-erba’parroċċi li għadni kif semmejt.
Dan id-dokument inkiteb eżattament wara l-ewwel Viżita Pastorali tal-Isqof f’Għawdex. Jidher li dak inhar għall-Isqof Palmieri, is-soluzzjoni għas-sitwazzjoni reliġjuża fil-gżira Għawdxija kienet li jitwaqqfu erba’ parroċċi ġodda: fiż-Żebbuġ, fix-Xagħra, f’Sannat u oħra fil-Qala. Billi dawn l-inħawikienu mbiegħda mir-Rabat, il-bżonn li jitwaqqfu dawn il-parroċċi kien ħafnaikbar. F’dokument mill-aktar qadim li illum jinsab ippublikat(ara: “Il-Matriċi Kolleġġjata tal-Assunta u l-Ewwel Parroċċi t’Għawdex”, 1975, pp. 118-120), il-parroċċi kellhom bżonnisiru f’Santa Margerita ta’ Sannat, f’Sant’ Anton Abbati tax-Xagħra, f’SantaMarija tal-Qala u f’ Santa Marija tal-Mirakli fiż-Żebbuġ. F’dan id-dokumentl-Isqof semma xi djar li kienu mxerrdin mal-kampanja kollha ta’Għawdex u qalhekk: “…uħud minn dawn id-djar huma erba’ mili jew aktar bogħod mir-Rabat ”.Din il-kwotazzjoni tirreferi biċ-ċar għad-djar tal-Qala minħabba li ebda raħalGħawdxi mhu imbiegħed mir-Rabat iktar minn erba’ mili ħlief ir-raħal tal-Qala.Skont il-kitba tal-4 ta’ Mejju 1687 nafu li n-nies tal-erba’ rħula msemmija maqatgħux milli jitolbu bla waqfien biex ikollhom l-istat ta’parroċċa.Fid-dokument tal-Isqof naraw li bħala rimedju għas-sitwazzjoni, Mons. CoccoPalmieri għażel lil Dun Ewġenju Azzopardi biex jagħmilha ta’ viċi parrokufl-irħula taż-Żebbuġ, tax-Xagħra, ta’ Sannat u tal-Qala.
It-Tieni Dokument
Kif kien wiegħed sena qabel fl-4 ta’Mejju 1687 l-Isqof Cocco Palmieri waqqaf erba’ Parroċċi ġodda waħda fil-Qala,f’ Sannat, fix-Xagħra u fiż-Żebbuġ bid-digriet tat-28 ta’ April 1688. Din hijaparti mit-tweġiba li qiegħda fid-dokument tal-4 ta’ Mejju 1687 tiegħugħat-talba li għamlu in-nies ta’ dawn l-irħula f’Jannar tal-istess sena:“…essendori quattro altre contrade cioe’ della Cala, del Sannat, di Sant’Antonio e del Zebbug che hoggi se trovano nell’ istesso bisognio…”.
U Allura issa ngħaddu għat-tienidokument tal-Isqof Cocco Palmieri, id-digriet tat-28 ta’ April 1688 li fihinsibu l-proklamazzjoni tat-twaqqif tal-erba’ Parroċċi; Santa Margerita ta’Sannat, Sant’ Anton tax-Xagħra, Santa Marija tal-Qala u Santa Marijatal-Mirakli taż-Żebbug. Din il-proklamazzjoni insibuha għal madwar tnax-ildarba fid-digriet. Il-kuntratt ta’ dan id-digriet sar quddiem in-Nutar GiovanniBattista Dorbese nhar it-28 ta’ April 1688. Bħala ragħaj spiritwali jewKappillan għall-kontrada tal-Qala gie magħżul Dun Bernard Haber u fl-istess ħinġie ordnat biex ‘il quddiem jibni knisja parrokkjali fil-post hekk imsejjaħ Ta’Nadur ħdejn id-djar li kien hemm. Jidher biċ-ċar kif jgħid l-istess Isqof limix-xatt tar-Ramla għall-Wied ta’ Xħajma lejn Ta’ Ħamet sal-limiti tax-Xewkija,fejn iduru ma’ Triq l-Imġarr u jinżlu magħha sal-Imġarr kien jissejjaħ bħalaQala. Iżid jgħid l-Isqof bit-Taljan: “Comprendendosi in questo ristretto lasuddetta contrada TAL CALA con sue pertinenze, cioe’ Nadur, Comino e Ramla”.Dan kollu juri bic-car li f’din il-kontrada ma kienet teżisti l-ebda knisjaohra ħlief dik li kienet iddedikata lill-Immakulata Kunċizzjoni għalkemm kienettiġi mgħarrfa bħala Santa Marija tal-Qala minħabba li sas-sena 1615 dinil-knisja kienet iddedikata lil Santa Marija. Min dan id-digriet tat-28 ta’April tas-sena 1688 jidher biċ-ċar li l-Parroċċa għall-Lvant ta’ Għawdex saretfil-QALA flimkien ma dawk tax-Xagħra, Ta’ Sannat u dik taż-Żebbuġ.
It-Tielet Dokument
Niġi issa għat-Tielet dokument lijkompli jikkonferma dak li għidt iktar ‘il fuq dwar it-twaqqif tal-erba’parroċċi ġodda fit-28 ta’ April 1688. Din hija l-ittra tal-Isqof Cocco Palmierilill-awtoritajiet tal-Knisja f’Ruma fit-18 ta’ Settembru 1688. Dan id-dokumentġie rrivelat u ppublikat minn Patri Alexander Bonnici fis-sena 1975 fil-ktiebtiegħu “Il-Matriċi Kolleġġjata ta’ l-Assunta u l-Ewwel Parroċċi ta’ Għawdex”.Dan wieħed jista’ jsibu fil-paġni 118 u 119 taħt it-titlu ta’: SANNAT, IX-XAGĦRA,IL-QALA, U Ż-ŻEBBUĠ JINQATGĦU PARROĊĊI GĦAL RASHOM: WAQT LI SAN ĠORĠ TIBQA’PARROĊĊA IMMA MMEXXIJA MILL-ARĊIPRIET TAL-MATRIĊI TAL-ASSUNTA. F’ din l-ittral-Isqof Palmieri jgħid li kellhom jiġu mwaqqfa dawn l-erba’ parroċċi minħabbali l-Arċipriet ma setax ilaħħaq ma dawn ir-reġjuni kollha speċjalment ma’ dawkil-persuni li jkunu waslu fl-aħħar mumenti ta’ ħajjithom. Filwaqt li jitlobapprovazzjoni għat-talba tiegħu li jiġu kkonfermati dawn l-erba’ parroċċi ġoddamill-Vatikan, l-istess Isqof jsemmi dawn l-erba’ parroċċi b’isimhom. Għalhekk il-Vatikansar jaf b’dawn l-erba’ rħula jew reġjuni biss li huma: Ta’ Sannat, ix-Xagħra,il-Qala, u ż-Żebbuġ. L-approvazzjoni tat-twaqqif ta’ dawn l-erba’ parroċċiġodda ġiet approvata minn Ruma bid-digriet tal-5 ta’ Marzu 1689. Ir-rispostamill-Vatikan kienet din: “Concilii Tridentini Interpetum respondit:Affirmative”. Minn dan id-dokument jidher biċ-ċar li l-Isqof Cocco Palmierimill-ġdid jerġa’ jtenni li l-erba’ parroċċi ġodda mwaqqfa fit-28 ta’ April 1688minnu stess kienu Ta’ Sannat, ix-Xaghra, il-Qala u ż-Żebbuġ.
Ir-Raba’ Dokument
Jekk it-tliet dokumenti li għadna kifrajna: tal-4 ta’ Mejju 1687, tat-28 ta’ April 1688 u tat-18 ta’ Settembru 1688m’humiex bizzejjed biex jikkonfermaw li l-Qala kienet waħda mill-erba’ parroċċiimwaqqfa fit-28 ta’ April 1688, għandna document ieħor. Din hija l-vistapastorali li għamel f’Għawdex l-Isqof Davide Cocco Palmieri fl-1698, għaxarsnin wara t-twaqqif tal-erba’ parroċċi: Ta’ Sannat, tax-Xagħra, tal-Qala utaż-Żebbuġ. F’din il-vista l-Isqof jgħid li żar fost żjarat ohrajn il-parroċċili hu stess kien waqqaf għaxar snin qabel u li kienu ġew approvati mill-Vatikanbid-digriet tal-5 ta’ Marzu 1689. Jgħid li fil-Parroċċa tal-Qala kien hemm bħalaKappillan Dun Bernard Haber.
F’dawn l-erba’ dokumenti jidher biċ-ċarli l-Qala twaqqfet Parroċċa bid-digriet tat-28 ta’ April 1688 flimkien ma dawkta’ Sannat, tax-Xagħra u taż-Żebbuġ. Minn dawn id-dokumenti joħroġ biċ-ċarukoll li l-Parroċċa ta’ Santa Marija tal-Qala li kienet fil-kontrada li kienjisimha Qala kienet isservi għall-Lvant ta’ Għawdex kollu.
John Paul Cefai was announced as the winner of the Youth of the Year Award 2012 from 10 finalists in a ceremony held at the end of a mass celebrated at St Dominic’s Church, Rabat on Friday, 1st February 2013. This recognition is awarded yearly by the Kerŷgma Movement and the trophy is presented by the President of Malta, Dr George Abela.
Radju Leħen il-Qala congratulates John Paul and thanks him for all the hard work and dedication whilst working for the benefit of all our listeners. John Paul has been involved in RLQ for the last 13 years and he is the mastermind behind the new €80,000 studios and the audio-visual camera project, just to mention a few projects.

Radju Leħen il-Qala is once again embarking on airing a new schedule! This time the schedule prepared for the Immaculate Conception Feast and Christmas 2012. In this schedule, you will enjoy a variety of programmes that will surely meet all your tastes. From a public demand we will be airing a range of programmes from our archives.
Till the Conception Feast, there will be a continuous live coverage from the Sanctuary of all liturgical celebrations and also all the festive activities, particularly on the 8th December.
RLQ has at its heart all our listeners particularly our elderly and emigrants. Especially for these, RLQ has just installed two new cameras so as to be able to view all activities happening inside and outside the Sanctuary. We are sure that a lot of you would like to be physically present for these celebrations. This service offers the best proximity that one can be.
This audio-visual service at the Sanctuary compliments the service that was launched in the past years to cover the St Joseph Square and the St Joseph Parish Church. These cameras are all joined to the infrastructure that was built in 2008 with the new studios, all thanks to your generosity. All these services depend solely on your donations, so every input is greatly appreciated.
Everyone at RLQ offers his time and services free of charge, so a big thank you goes to all the volunteers and their families for their sacrifices and work. This truly manifests a community radio station with a big heart. Special thanks go to all those that helped bring this schedule to your radio sets: presenters and technicians. Thank you also to Archpriest Fr Joe Zammit, Parish Associate Fr Charles Buttigieg and the presbytery for their continuous support so that this station continues to be a link between Church and home from all the different parts of the world.
At this time of year, the Immaculate Conception brings a lot of attention to the National Sanctuary at Qala. Radju Lehen il-Qala joins all the celebrations from the Sanctuary to its listeners through the Conception Feast and Christmas Schedule. This year, this special schedule will start airing on Saturday, 1st December 2012. Various programs are prepared for our listeners together with live transmissions of all the ceremonies from the Immaculate Conception National Sanctuary.
For the benefit of all our listeners, two further cameras were added to our system to cater for the visual transmissions from the National Sanctuary – one viewing the inside of the Sanctuary and the other one viewing San Kerrew Square (infront of the Sanctuary). This schedule has been in swing for the last two weeks, based on a four week timetable. This schedule was able to function due to the hard work put in by the many volunteers who give some long hours each day of their precious time. This has been greatly appreciated by the general public and an evidence of this is that all competitions have been keenly followed by the participation of 1 045 competitors, who were in turn able to win many vouchers by our gracious sponsors, whom we would once more give thanks to. This number has been achieved in just one and a half weeks.
Moreover, during this schedule we were greatly honored to have interviewed ‘The Spirit of Smokey’, who are well known all over the world as a top-chart band. During this interview we were informed of the history of the original band, Smokey, which were led by the father of one of these stalwarts. They also regaled us with one of their recent songs. Once again we would like to thank them for taking some time off, of their time.
With the great help of our patron saint, St Joseph, we look forward to being of great service to all our listeners during the remaining half, especially to our elderly, those confined to their beds and all our emigrants. Your feedback is just enough to spur us on.
The beginning of the seventh month of the year, July, marks the start of a new schedule on 106.3FM, that for the last sixteen consecutive years its volunteers have worked hard to come up with a top notch one. This year’s version is spread on four whole weeks that thanks to the efforts of numerous volunteers, we can successfully air a variety of programs, certainly touching upon the different listeners’ tastes.
Radju Leħen il-Qala (RLQ) has made it possible not only to broadcast its programs through radio but has also added its services to its listeners by going visual. As you all know, throughout this year our station has given service by broadcasting visual from our village square, and now we are working on another aspect, that is, installing a permanent camera in our church. This will help our listeners, especially our emigrants, to follow all celebrations and activities being held in our main church. This is another service which RLQ will be working hard on during the upcoming weeks, especially for the benefit of our emigrants who we know will be so anxious to follow all the activities going on during our village festa. This will help them not only to watch all procedures in the village square, but also to follow all function in our church.
All this will be made possible by the stern work done by our administration and our hard working volunteers. This broadcasting is not only done by RLQ during these four weeks leading to the village festa, but we are also at your service both local and foreign throughout the whole year. Let us take this opportunity to give a warm and deserved thanks to our Archpriest and clergy, the administration, all presenters and technicians for all their numerous sacrifices so that once again, it is possible to be able to broadcast such a schedule of such a high level. Another special thanks goes to our benefactors whom we know that only with their great help, can RLQ continue to transmit and be heard in our local homes.
